How You Can Help
GIVE BLOOD!!
One of the best ways to help a cancer patient and the thousands of cancer survivors who are no longer eligible to donate blood is to Give Blood!

Here’s What You Need to Know:

You are eligible to donate if you meet the following criteria:
  • You are in good health
  • You are 17 to 75 years old
  • 16 year olds need a parental consent form in the Hudson Valley
  • If you are over 75 and want to donate, a doctor’s note is required
  • You need to weigh at least 110 pounds
  • You must not have donated in the last 56 days
  • You can donate if you have controlled high blood pressure, asthma or diabetes

You may be temporarily ineligible due to the following criteria:
  • If you are feeling unwell for any reason until symptoms are resolved
  • Travel to some areas outside the U.S. or Canada, which can result in a temporary or permanent deferral from donating
  • Certain medical conditions
  • Certain medical procedures
  • Certain medicines being taken for infection
  • Tattoo or body piercing
  • Vaccinations
  • Pregnancy

You are not eligible to donate blood with the following medical conditions:
  • HIV positive
  • Hepatitis or jaundice (after age 11)
  • History of lymphoma or leukemia
  • Some organ transplants
  • Creutzfeldt Jacob Disease or a family history of the disease.
